General assistance is provided to persons who qualify and need help for thirty (30) days only. Applicants must:
- Be residents of Mahomet Township (a permanent address is not required)
- Be at least 18 years old, and not older than 64
- Applicants must also seek out all other resources available, including but not limited to Illinois Public Aid, family, friends, personal loans, or other social agencies in which the applicant may qualify.
- Be employed, applying for work, or be able to provide a written explanation from a doctor explaining why the applicant cannot work and an estimate as to how long the applicant might be unable to work.
If an applicant is unemployed, they must be willing to accept employment offered. Unemployed applicants must be registered for employment with the Illinois State Employment Service and other suitable job placement services.
Applicants who are eligible for Illinois Public Aid are not eligible for Township General Assistance.
Reasons for termination of application include:
- Failure to keep an appointment
- Failure to accept employment
- Failure to notify Township Supervisor of any change in status
- Providing false or fraudulent information
- Failure to meet eligibility requirements
